Genus Information
Care Requirements – Easy
Light requirements
Asplenium nidus likes to be in a well-lit area but is a bit more tolerant of darkness than other plants. We recommend an area that receives a moderate amount of natural light. It is best to avoid direct sunlight with this plant.
Watering requirements
Bird’s Nest Ferns like to be kept in moist conditions although it is important that they have good drainage as they won’t be happy sitting in water. The best method to create these conditions is to water the plant little and often.
Humidity requirements
Asplenium nidus can cope in a location with normal household humidity, however it will thrive in a location with higher humidity. If it is in a spot with normal humidity we recommend occasional misting to keep the foliage looking fresh.
Growth
Bird’s Nest Ferns will reach a height of 0.5-1m and will reach a spread of around 0.1-0.5m and are slow growers.
Origin
Asplenium nidus is native to South East Asia.
Flowering
Asplenium nidus does not produce flowers when grown indoors.
Foliage
Bird’s Nest Ferns produce green foliage and have an upright habit. They do not require any pruning.
